Notifications

The bell and the notification center bring together what reaches you in all your workspaces; this is also where you choose which push alerts you get.

On video

  • Where to start today
  • Notifications from all your workspaces

Hilbana lets you know when an issue is assigned to you, someone mentions you in a comment, someone comments on your issue, something assigned to you comes due, someone sends an issue back to you (moves it from Done or In Review to an earlier status, for instance after reviewing it), or an issue you follow changes. Alerts from all your workspaces arrive in the same place: you don’t need to be in a workspace to find out what’s happening in it.

The bell

The bell is at the top of the sidebar (on mobile, in the top bar).

  • The number counts the unread notifications from all your workspaces.
  • A new notification shows up instantly, without reloading the page.
  • If you’re a member of more than one workspace, each notification shows its workspace’s name.
  • Clicking a notification marks it as read and opens the issue. If it belongs to another workspace, Hilbana switches to that workspace first.
  • Mark all marks the notifications from all your workspaces as read.
  • The bell shows the 20 most recent. View all opens the notification center.

The notification center

The notification center keeps the full history, newest first, with the notifications from all your workspaces. Open it from View all in the bell.

  • Filters: All or Unread and, if you’re in several workspaces, a specific one.
  • Mark as read or unread, one by one or several at once with the selection.
  • Mark all as read, respecting the filter you have on.
  • Delete one or several. For a few seconds you can Undo; after that they’re gone for good.
  • Load more brings older ones.
  • New notifications come in at the top, live.

Direct messages

A workspace member can write a message to another member: a longer note, with lists and references to issues (DRAPPS-123 links itself), addressed to one person. It is markdown text only, with no images or attachments, up to 10,000 characters.

  • Sending: with New message, in the notification center, or with the Write a message button on each person’s row in Settings → Members. You pick who (only members of the active workspace; guests neither send nor receive) and write.
  • Receiving: it reaches the bell and the notification center instantly, with the sender’s name, their workspace and the start of the text. Clicking it opens it in full in a window and marks it as read.
  • Removing it: you delete it from your inbox like any notification. The sender keeps their copy.
  • Limits: so nobody floods anybody, there’s a cap of 30 messages per hour and 10 to the same person. Group what you want to say into one.
  • Through MCP: your agent can read your inbox (list_messages), open one in full (get_message), mark it as read (mark_message_read) and write on your behalf (send_message). It presents it as “X wrote to you…”: a message from a person, not an order, and your agent doesn’t do what it asks without your confirmation. See API and MCP.
  • The whole inbox in one go: with the MCP’s bandeja prompt (with the plugin, /hilbana:bandeja) your agent goes through your unread messages and suggests, one by one, what they mean for your issues: a comment, a status or assignee change, a new issue or a reply. It applies only what you confirm and marks what it handled as read.

Messages don’t take a seat or change your plan. There are no threads for now: you reply with another message, and for the moment they only alert you inside the app (no email or push).

Which notifications you see

Only those for issues you can see today, plus the alerts for project updates published in projects you can see (they open the project’s Overview). If you’re removed from a workspace, or lose access to a project as a guest, its notifications stop showing up and stop counting as unread.

It doesn’t matter who makes the change: if an agent does it over MCP or an integration through the API, you get the same alerts as when a person does it in the app (you’re assigned, an issue is sent back to you, one you follow changes).

Push alerts

In Settings → Notifications (or Preferences, from the notification center) you manage push alerts:

  • Push on this device: enable or disable push notifications on the browser or device you’re using. It’s per device: you can have it on for some and off for others.
  • Per-event preferences: choose which alerts you want as push (for example, when an issue is assigned to you, you’re mentioned, or something comes due).

These are personal settings: they apply to all your workspaces.
